‘Makulu campers’ can accommodate up to about 12 guests within the campsite. An experienced manager, wildlife life guide, chef, and housekeeping staff work together to provide a memorable camping experience. The teams operate from a base camp situated in Udawalawa & fully equipped with a freezer, storage facilities, and ample supplies. The base camp is fully geared to deliver supplies and back up support to the various ‘Makulu campers’ operations at any time.
Makulu Campers follows strict wildlife conservation policies. All waste material is disposed of in an eco-friendly manner, guests are encouraged to use water sparingly and made aware of nature conservation. The mobile camping sites are set up before the guests arrive and cleared out completely afterwards, in keeping with strict eco-friendly policies.
The campsites consist of four to five accommodation tents, a dining tent and kitchen tent.
Meals are served in the dining tent or outdoors under a starlit sky. The camp site illuminated with flames and lanterns and you can experience the authentic camping foods made using flames by the hands of top class chefs. There is a choice of Sri Lankan or Western breakfast; traditional Sri Lankan rice and curries for lunch; and dinner is a sumptuous five course meal.
Set off on an early morning wildlife safari into the jungles; return to the camp to a leisurely breakfast followed by a dip in the river. Land Rovers and Toyota Hilux jeeps are used for the game drives. A back up vehicle is provided upon request for the game drives. By nightfall, relax with a drink by a roaring bon fire and enjoy the magical night in the wilds.
Guests can warm themselves in front of open fire or dine alfresco & take breathtaking views of the ‘stair way to heaven’

The ‘Makulu campers’ cost per head includes accommodation, all meals and snacks; all beverages including tea/coffee, bottled water, soft drinks and juices, a limited number of local beers, wines, and spirits; two game drives per day; National Park entrance fees and wildlife tracker fees. Although there is no required minimum night stay, We recommends staying at least two nights in order to gain fully from this memorable experience.
